Morrissey 06.30.07 Madison Square Garden New York, NY Tickets will probably be absurdly expensive. Probably over $100, but I'd really like to go. Anyone interested? Current Music: devotchka | | Thursday, February 8th, 2007 | | 2:15 pm |
I know I'm really late to the party on this, but the Hold Steady is really fucking good. In a time where there are these European/British, effeminate, well-dressed disco punk bands around, the hold steady breaks through all that. Average dudes, well-read, intelligent, playing fun rock music about drinking and heartbreak. Truly American. Get into it. | | Monday, January 29th, 2007 | | 7:27 pm |

xmas/year end wrap up
Hey what’s up kids? It’s Christmastime in Maine, and I just copped an excellent gift: a video Ipod. I’d been adamantly anti-Ipod for a while, I claimed it was destroying the album format and was further disintegrating our current appreciation for music and shifting further emphasis on the single. I was wrong. If anything the Ipod allows me to further enjoy music. I’ve already listened to about six hours of music today just because I’ve had this in my pocket as I’ve wandered the house. When I’m not driving, I hardly ever listen to music, so the Ipod is nice. I don’t ride the train or anything like that, but I still walk various places on campus. The final reason I back the Ipod is the gym. The Ipod is going to open up a whole new world of lifting. I find I lift a lot better when I’m listening to music for a few reason A) It motivates me, B) I become less conscious of my breathing and possibly grunting while lifting and just do what comes naturally, and C) Music creates a wall of sorts and a disconnect between me and the other people in the gym, and allows true focus. I’ve been ripping my cds all day and still haven’t come close to filling up this beast. Also, my mother finally decided to get high speed internet, we’ve had 56k since 7th grade. I will get to use this internet for exactly 10 days before I have to go back to school. That’s kinda awesome. Album of the year is three-way tie between Jesu’s self titled, Have Heart’s “The Things We Carry” and Young Jeezy’s “The Inspiration”, The Clipse’s “Hell Hath No Fury” also deserves a mention. Jeeezy’s album sounds straight-up cinematic. It’s like you’re watching The Wire or something. Nas’ new album “Hip-hop is Dead” is also really fucking good. The TV on Radio album “Return to Cookie Mountain” also deserves a mention. Hey, they’re on the cover of spin magazine now, and I saw a video of their’s on mtv. The Patriots are looking a lot better as the season winds down, and it’s always important to peak as the playoffs begin. Rodney Harrison is back and so is Lawrence Maroney. Once we get Vince Wilfork back, we will be in great shape. I wouldn’t have said this two weeks ago, but the Patriots could make some noise in the playoffs, but we’ll have to see. It’ll be interesting to see how the Pats deal with Vince Young next week in their game against the Titans. Also, lolz at the Giants. That’s all. I think I’m going to get my MBA. I’m gonna be a business, man. Current Mood: boredCurrent Music: Killing the Dream. | | Monday, November 6th, 2006 | | 4:46 am |
I'm giving up video games. Selling my ps2 on ebay. This will be for the better. | | Sunday, October 8th, 2006 | | 5:24 am |
Eating a triple whopper while driving is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Lolz at the Yankees. Rocky Votolato/William Eliot Whitmore in November. Siked on it. Pats are lookin' good. Gonna destroy Culpepper and Miami tomorow. Get your roll on! Going to see The Departed with my mom tomorow, I have pretty high expectations. Got some new jeans today. I wear a 28 length which is sorta rare, so finding jeans is always a chalenge. Other than the stress surrounding senior year of my undergrad, life is pretty awesome. ITS MADDEN SEASON, SLUTS! Current Music: chromeo - youre so gangsta | | Saturday, August 19th, 2006 | | 5:14 pm |
The odds of a Mets/Yankees world series are pretty fucking high. Adam is still the bossman at PEC. My goal for this semester is to book chromeo, I can't imagine they cost more than a few large. | | Friday, August 18th, 2006 | | 1:24 pm |
some thoughts.
The new Have Heart cd is probably going to be the hardcore album of the year. It has tight bro-down mosh parts, but also some really good lyrics. They're blunt and not too flowery but they actually hold some weight. We're not talking genero brotherhood stuff here. I've also been bumpin the new Terror in the gym a lot latley, which is perfect lifting music. Scott Vogul is a primal animal, and the music is very tight and hard. There's also a hiphop track where Murs reps LA. Why the fuck did Team USA cut Bruce Bowen? He's supposed to be the shutdown defense guy from Manu, Pau, and Dirk. I've been watching a lot of Entourage. Drama is right up there with Cosmo Kramer for funniest tv character. Current Music: the notwist. | | Monday, July 31st, 2006 | | 9:11 pm |
Fuck David Wells. I've backed him all season. But this is the last straw. Current Music: new order - regret over the PA | | Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 | | 1:38 pm |
new cds purchases.
The new Betrayed album "substance" is probably the hardcore album of the year. The new Set Your Goals is mad fun too. Current Music: have heart. | | Saturday, July 8th, 2006 | | 1:58 pm |
some thoughts
"Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley is getting the shit played out of it this summer on the radio and whatnot. I liked it about 4 months ago when I heard it on the internet. But this shit is getting so tired. The album is decent though. Kobaiashi (sp?) won again. He is one of the greatest athletes of our time. This dude def tops Lance Armstrong in my book. And there is not potential doping scandal surrounding him. After sunday we can all return to soccer apathy (except the ps2 form). USA USA USA. I shaved my beard and I look really weird. I will def get carded buying booze now. The NBA is slowly becoming my favorite league. It seems like Lebron isn't going to sign with the cavs (sorry theresse). I'm more siked for the NBA to start up again than the NFL. Weird. I saw trainspotting the other night for the first time. The underaged girl that ewan mcgregor bones is so hot. Damm son, I am feeling great. Nial, Leighton and myself made the treck down to boston last night to see Mr. Lif and Cage. Cage is probably my favorite current rapper right now. As I've stated previously I think Hell's Winter was the best record of 2005. Cage killed it. He was bringing the dives throughout his set and just gettin real amped. After that Lif was ridiculous. I was in like the 2nd row with my friends and we were just goin off like pretty much everyone else in the middle east. It was also a pleasure to finally be able to consume some PBR tall boys during the show. I need to start going to more hiphop shows, they are much more fun than hardcore/stoner metal. Current Music: the clash. | | Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 | | 1:14 pm |
+'s talking heads - stop making sense (probably the best live album I've heard) a loss for words (best pop-punk i've heard in a while) the world cup the eliptical machine at the gym the sun is finally out cleveland-bound in a couple weeks Frank Miller's Sin City Bukowski in general EC f'n W -'s working at hannaford (im not cut out for work, especially dealing with customers) forest is in Viena general bordem/lonliness (but there are definitly worse things in the world than this) not making in progress in the gym, but i know this is due to going out to the bar, I wish my two forms of escapism would balance each other, not offset. I'm 21 now. So fucking old. I only have a few more years before societal SP? pressure to do something with my life starts rearing its ugly head. Downloaded broken social scene's self titled album off of soulseek the other day because I keep reading about them, and I like to keep my finger on the pulse of music and whatnot. This shit is just not good. Hipsters will convince themselves anything is good if there is enough coolness surrounding the music. When I was 11 or 12 "superman's dead" by Our Lady Peace was one of my favorite songs. I've been downloading a lot of music from that time period. I remember when WCYY first became a station when I was like 11. My dad was really excited cause he thought playing it in the car would bring us closer somehow. Anyway, I found come home pretty much every day and listen to WCYY while I played SNES/PS1 until like 4, then I would watch MTV/Rap City. That's pretty much how I got my intermediate pop music educatation. I picked up Fifa 06 for the PS2 with some of my birthday money. I'm really not into soccer that much, I kind of like the idea of the fanatisism that surrounds it and the hot brazilian girls that are fans, but for the most part, soccer is not my bag. That being stated, Fifa 06 is pretty sick, and is giving me a better appreciation for soccer. Also picked up Depeche Mode's greatest hits 86-98. "Enjoy the silence" is such a fucking good song. A lot of the songs on here are hit or miss, but the singer is right up there with the singer of Life of Agony and Johnny Cash in the running for who has the voice of an angel. Modern Life is war/Outbreak in Worcester June 19th. Someone from Maine go with me. Friday is my birthday. I turn 21. Get into it. If you wanna come out and party in Portland hit me up. Clipse - lord willin' is an underrated hiphop classic. things to look forward to this summer: Lifetime at the ICC Pelican/Mono show Boston Brew Fest Cleveland Things in Maine are pretty mundane. I pretty much work, read, watch dvds, and lift weights. thats it. Current Music: this is hell. | | Friday, May 5th, 2006 | | 3:11 pm |
some thoughts.
I'm hoping the Lakers can pull out this series with the Suns. I've never been a Lakers fan, in fact, I straight up dislike them. The idea of a LA v. LA series is really enticing though. I back the Clips hard in this playoffs. I think a lot of Boston fans are also Clips fans, it's that down and out mentality. I'd also like the Wizards to somehow knock the Cavs out of the playoffs. I'm tired of hearing about the NBA's golden child bron bron. He gets all the calls. It's the Michael Jordan rule all over again. In game 5 when he made that buzzer beater he walked like a mother fucker, but obviously refs wouldn't make that call. Basketball is so subjective, the refs have more power than just about any game. Another sports related thought, I back Barry Bonds. I want him to break Hank Aaron's record just to fuck with people. Bonds is not a media darling and he doesn't give a fuck, he has that Kurt Cobain attitude, except he's a sports hero not a rockstar, so that shit isn't kosher. All these junior scene kids need to get off Siqour Ros (sp?) dick. I've listened to a handfull of albums by this band and for the most part they are straight up boring. And I'm very into the whole instrumental post-rock genre. I don't give a shit if you're playing the guitar with a violin bow, this shit still bores me. I also think it's pretty fucking dumb to make up a language for your band. I think kids latch onto this band becase for some reason this band has been elevated to some demi-god level and kids want to feel like they are on some next-level shit. You're not, and neither is this band. The graphic novel is a literary format I need to get more into. Any suggestions? I just ordered Maus. Reading the book, "Bomb the Suburbs" has made me come to a realization. I'm quite dull and inarticulate and that's why I gravitate to hiphop and other "cool" stuff. "Sporting their rap gear and attitude serves to disguise white kids' often bland, underdeveloped personalities. Unlike the rappers they admire, many are shy and inaticulate." This seems to be why white kids get into any subculture, not just hiphop. Skateboarding, hardcore, comics, indie rock, whatever. I made a list of goals for the summer. Check it. -gain 10 lbs -read 15 books -try 50 different beers, and learn more about beer (this will probably be taken care of at boston beer fest) -become a better and more knowledgable hold em' player summer is going to be off the chains. I will be working at hannaford/delivering pizzas. living the townie lifestyle I always dreamed of. plus I will be 21 may 26th, get into it. for those of you that are 21 I will be having a kegger/bbq at my moms place. please be of age though just for my mom's sake. she's being a very cool mom on this one. Also, I just signed up for netflix. Suggest some movies. Current Music: the decemberists. | | Saturday, April 15th, 2006 | | 1:26 pm |

Beanie Sigel's album The B. Coming has been slept on by me, and I assume many others. I remember my roomate playing this for me, and me thinking it would suck and deciding that it sucked before I really even gave it a shot. I've given it a few more spins latley, and I have to say this will be a classic someday. Beans puts together sincere, articulate, and heartfelt raps over some really good beats filled with old soul samples and all that shit. This is real hiphop. I can't stand watching Milly Mo Pena. I like average/OPB guys with good plate discipline, I can't stand this guy. He's just this huge brute that swings and everything and like every 20th appearance he connects and jacks a dong. But what about those other at backs where he strikes out. It's so frustrating to watch him bat. He's more often than not, 3 strikes and out. Other than Willy Mo, the sox are looking like a juggernaut. Owen is playing at Clark on thursday. It's free. If you're into him and wanna see him in a very intimate setting (I doubt more than 25 people will show) you should come. If you need directions and more details him me up. I've got nothing else.
